Brass instruments

Brass instruments are musical instruments that produce sound by directing an airstream into a mouthpiece, causing the player’s lips to vibrate. They are also referred to as “labrosones,” which literally means “instruments of lip vibration” (Baines). To change the pitch on a keyed brass instrument, there are two methods: first, pressing keys alters the length of the tubing; second, the player adjusts the airflow to modify the frequency of lip vibration.

Woodwind instruments

Woodwind instruments derive their name from the fact that they are traditionally crafted from ebony or other dense hardwoods. While modern flutes are now made of metal, their sound‑producing mechanism still classifies them as woodwinds. Woodwinds generally come in two main shapes: cylindrical, as seen in the flute and clarinet, and conical, as in the oboe and bassoon. With a broad tonal range, a mellow timbre, and great expressive power, woodwinds play pivotal roles in ensembles and also serve as important solo instruments. In wind bands, the most commonly used woodwinds include the flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, English horn, and bassoon.

Marching instruments

Marching band, in English: Marching Band, combines wind instrument performance with a variety of visual and theatrical elements. It features a broad range of themes and flexible formats, delivering dynamic, high‑impact audiovisual experiences. Emerging in the 1960s, it initially appeared as a signature segment within wind ensembles and military bands, but has since evolved into an independent performing art distinct from symphonic wind music. A typical marching band comprises a wind section, a percussion section, and a visual‑performance group (including flag teams, rifle teams, sword teams, and more). Its performances integrate rapid formation changes with live musical renditions, offering dual benefits of aesthetic education and physical fitness.

Hebei Huasheng Musical Instrument Manufacturing Co., Ltd. was founded in 1970 and is a specialized manufacturer of “Huasheng”-branded wind instruments. The company occupies over 60 mu of land, with a total building area of 30,000 square meters. It currently employs more than 200 staff members, including over 50 professional engineers and more than 80 college and vocational school graduates. Its main product lines comprise four major categories—brass instruments, woodwind instruments, marching band instruments, and children’s instruments—offering over 100 varieties along with a wide range of accessories.

Guests in attendance included Zhang Ligen, General Manager of Hebei Huasheng Musical Instrument Manufacturing Co., Ltd.; Zeng Zemin, Executive Vice Chairman of the China Musical Instrument Association; Zhang Bingqian, former Director of the People’s Congress of Qiaodong District in Shijiazhuang; and renowned German conductor Jörg Iver, among others.
