Innovation and Integration, Quality and Brand — At the 2023 Instrument Industry Conference on Technological Innovation and Industrial Development, Huasheng Musical Instruments once again received a prestigious honor.

From December 12 to 14, the “2023 Conference on Technological Innovation and Industrial Development in the Musical Instrument Industry” was successfully held in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province. Attending the conference were Wang Shicheng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the China National Light Industry Council and President of the China Musical Instrument Association; Hou Biao, Deputy Director of the Management Committee of the Zhuhai High-Tech Industrial Development Zone; Zheng Quan, Vice President of the China Musical Instrument Association, professor at the Central Conservatory of Music, a national master craftsman in the light industry, and an internationally renowned violin maker; Wu Bin, advisor to the China Musical Instrument Association, former president of the People’s Music Publishing House, and a distinguished music educator; Bian Liunian, Vice President of the China Musical Instrument Association, a celebrated musician, and the chief music designer for the closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics, the Guangzhou Asian Games, and the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games; as well as Zhang Hongyan, Vice President of the China Musical Instrument Association, professor at the Central Conservatory of Music, and a renowned pipa virtuoso. Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, former President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Bai Chunli, the inaugural president of the Alliance of International Science Organizations under the Belt and Road Initiative, and Fang Xiangjian, vice president of Zhuhai Gree Electric Appliances Co., Ltd., attended the event upon invitation and delivered keynote presentations. Nearly 200 representatives—including vice chairpersons, executive directors, and directors of the China Musical Instrument Association, as well as delegates from member enterprises, related industry organizations, academic institutions, research institutes, local trade associations, and government‑backed industrial clusters—participated in the conference.

This year’s conference is themed… With the theme “Innovation and Integration, Quality and Brand,” the event aims to review and advance innovation and R&D in the musical instrument industry, as well as the development of the “three‑product” strategy; to promote new technologies and products; to discuss future trends; and to propose new pathways and models for technological innovation and industrial growth.

The meeting pointed out that, In 2023, under the leadership of the Party Committee of the China National Light Industry Council, the entire industry implemented the development philosophy that “science and technology are the primary productive forces, talent is the primary resource, and innovation is the primary driving force,” while consolidating and refining the overarching approach to scientific and technological innovation—“dual‑pronged efforts and six‑pillar drive”—and ensuring that all initiatives were grounded in concrete measures and delivered tangible results.

The meeting emphasized that, in pursuit of the year’s objectives, the musical instrument industry has achieved tangible and hard-won results in technological innovation, industrial integration, and talent development. These accomplishments have not only laid a solid foundation for future growth but have also, to a significant extent, mitigated or offset the downward economic pressures facing the sector.

Chairman Wang Shicheng delivered a speech titled “Enhancing Quality” Stable growth The thematic report, “Unleashing New Momentum for Strengthening Foundations and Boosting Industry through Technological Innovation,” provides a comprehensive summary of the work undertaken in three key areas: technological innovation, industrial integration, and talent development within the musical instrument industry. Technological innovation embodies… “Five areas of further enhancement and two aspects of further improvement.” Specifically, the levels of research and decision-making, overall scientific and technological innovation capacity, the quantity and rate of commercialization of innovative outcomes, the market influence of innovative products, and awareness of intellectual property innovation and protection have all been further strengthened; meanwhile, the systems for standards development and dissemination, as well as the mechanisms for evaluating and recognizing scientific and technological innovation, have been further refined. Significant progress has been made across four dimensions: integration within industrial chains, clustering of industries, convergence between domestic and international markets, and collaborative synergy among local associations. Furthermore, talent‑development efforts have been summarized from several perspectives, including vocational skills training, assessment and certification mechanisms, the formulation of national occupational skill standards, and advanced professional‑technical training programs.

In his report, Wang Shicheng briefed everyone on the period from the second half of last year to this year. In November, the industry’s performance was reviewed, and based on a comprehensive analysis, five key characteristics of the current musical instrument sector were identified: market dynamics remain volatile yet generally trending upward; domestic demand is recovering gradually, while overseas sales are accelerating across diverse channels; the low-end segment is contracting, while high-end demand is growing; investment in technological innovation is driving value, and brand strengths are becoming increasingly evident; and there is a clear shift toward entertainment‑oriented consumption, with substantial per‑capita potential.

Wang Shicheng stated that the association will The year 2024 has been designated as the “Year of Innovation and Quality Enhancement” for the musical instrument industry. It is hoped that all sectors of the industry will join forces to steadily advance all aspects of 2024’s work, striving to fully achieve the goals set forth in the 14th Five-Year Plan. In terms of specific initiatives, these efforts can be broadly summarized as “a new system, new pathways, new momentum, and renewed vitality.” Wang Shicheng outlined a clear vision for building an innovation-driven system across five key areas: platform frameworks, intellectual property, digital transformation integration, international technological and economic cooperation, and talent development and excellence‑building. He also put forward concrete requirements for optimizing new integrated pathways, focusing on four dimensions: industry‑policy alignment, cluster‑based regional advantages, end-to-end education‑performance‑training linkages, and leveraging high‑quality resources from academia, research, and industry. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of fostering new momentum for quality improvement by strengthening institutional mechanisms, unlocking the potential of the mid‑to‑high‑end market, refining innovative service models, and exploring improved industry‑organizational service frameworks. Finally, he underscored the need to cultivate fresh brand vitality through four strategic pillars: continuously refining brand strategies, systematizing brand‑building processes, enhancing international brand influence, and harnessing the internet to bolster brand development.

In his special report, “Trends in Cutting-Edge Global Scientific and Technological Development,” Academician Bai Chunli adopted a broad, overarching perspective, offering a sweeping and comprehensive analysis that was both visionary and far-reaching. From a macroscopic viewpoint, Madhyamaka, At the micro level, three distinct dimensions were presented to the attendees, illustrating the trajectory of cutting-edge global technological development and its phased achievements. Throughout the lecture, these three levels were shown to be interconnected. The impacts and transformations brought about by cutting-edge technologies such as “Internet Plus,” artificial intelligence, and big data applications—on industrial structures, business models, and social life—have sparked much thought. Participants noted that President Bai’s report offered a broad, integrated perspective, enabling us to examine the future development of the musical instrument industry from a higher and more comprehensive vantage point. Guided by new technologies, processes, energy sources, materials, and concepts, we can leverage these advances to drive the transformation and upgrading of traditional manufacturing, thereby better promoting the high-quality development of the musical instrument sector.

In his address, Hou Biao, Deputy Director of the Zhuhai High-Tech Industrial Development Zone Management Committee, highlighted the zone’s distinctive strengths and notable achievements in industrial development. He noted that the zone is home to a large number of high-tech enterprises, with its industrial strategy focused on cutting-edge fields such as semiconductors and integrated circuits, the information technology innovation sector, and artificial intelligence and robotics. Additionally, the zone has made significant strides in cultivating specialized industrial clusters in areas including biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, new energy, smart grids, and the digital economy.

Subsequently, Wen Jing, Deputy Director of the Zhuhai High-tech Zone Investment Promotion Center, provided a detailed overview of the zone’s planning and development, highlighting how the Zhuhai High-tech Zone leverages its strategic location at the intersection of Hong Kong, Zhuhai, and Macao. The zone’s gross output value and industrial investment have demonstrated robust growth, underscoring its strong industrial development momentum.
