Brass instruments

A brass instrument is a musical instrument that causes the lips to vibrate after blowing air into the mouthpiece. They are also known as "labrosones", which literally means "instruments for vibrating lips" (Baines). To change the pitch on a key instrument, there are two ways to do it: First, press the button to change the length of the tube, and second, the air flow from the player changes the frequency of the lips' vibration.
